John J. Bennett - Organist

John J. Bennett is a collaborative pianist, vocal coach, and class piano instructor for the School of Music at UNOmaha. Bennett's first professional opera was with Opera Omaha as Associate Conductor/Coach for Lucia di Lammermoor, starring Beverly Sills and Samuel Ramey.

During Mr. Bennett’s tenure as Chorus Master, he prepared Opera Omaha’s Chorus for productions of Lucia di Lammermoor, Cold Sassy Tree, The Tenderland, Turandot, La Traviata, Carmina Burana, Paul Bunyan, Madama Butterfly, The Abduction from the Seraglio, Tosca, The Barber of Seville, and Aida, among others.

During his fifteen seasons as Music Director at the Omaha Playhouse, Bennett conducted over 75 music theatre productions. His score for A Christmas Carol has been performed at the Playhouse, as well as many National Tours, since 1976.

As Canon Precentor of Omaha’s historic Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Bennett held the position of Director of Music (Organist/Choirmaster) for 25 years.
